Irma Lopez, a member of the United Women’s Leadership Council and a United Way Board Member, was escorted to her table by Meathead Mover, Anthony Mendez.

The United Women’s Leadership Council (UWLC) raised close to $10,000 from the second “Girls’ Night Out” event held in March. The Meathead Movers company put on the event which was held at the Whale’s Tail Restaurant in Oxnard.

Over 150 guests were met at the door with a long-stem rose, a glass of champagne, and a tuxedoed “Meathead.” The evening’s program was led by disc jockey Matt Graumann and included a silent auction and a 50/50 cash drawing. The winner of the drawing also received a future date with two “Meatheads” to clean out their garage.

Since March 2007, the UWLC — under the auspices of United Way of Ventura County — has joined together a network of individuals dedicated to helping resolve foster care emancipation issues in our community through their collective financial and leadership power.

UWLC empowers female foster youth by supporting transitional services and helping to break the cycle of early pregnancy and dependency. The group partners with other organizations in Ventura County to provide mentoring and housing assistance to these young women.

Proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards the United Women’s Leadership Council’s Mentoring and Housing Assistance Programs for female foster youth.

For more information regarding the UWLC, please call Amy Fonzo, VP of Resource Development at United Way of Ventura County, at (805) 485-6288, ext. 230 or email at: afonzo@vcunitedway.org.
