With more than 160 employees and three locations — in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties — Meathead Movers provides commercial, residential and local moving services throughout California. Employees are clean cut, drug-free athletes who bring their “A” game to each move.  When Aaron Steed was in college he was looking for a way to earn money while going to school and playing sports. It was difficult finding part time work that fit his busy schedule. When some friends needed help moving, he asked his brother, Evan, to lend a hand and that became the inspiration for Meathead Movers.

The two brothers have been in business for more than 12 years and the company is thriving. Their philosophy is simple; they hire athletes from local colleges and train them thoroughly, encouraging excellence and demanding a positive attitude, much like their employees’ coaches. In fact Meathead Movers works closely with many local college coaches to recruit new employees.

With more than 160 employees and three locations — in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties — Meathead Movers provides commercial, residential and local moving services throughout California. The Camarillo location has received Ventura County Star Readers’ Choice Award recognition for moving company two years in a row.

According to Aaron Steed, “Moving is such a personal experience, you are putting all your possessions in a truck and watch them being driven away, so it’s important to trust your movers.”

Meathead Movers hires clean-cut, drug-free athletes and being athletes, they bring their “A” game to your move, jogging not walking between trips to load the trucks.

They are careful and courteous and as one customer recently commented, “These bulls would definitely be allowed in a china shop.”

Part of the athletes pay is based upon customer evaluations. Earning points and rewards for positive feedback translates into dollars, something every student needs.

Steed builds his facilities to be athlete friendly, employee lockers line the wall much like a clubhouse. Banners from local colleges and universities are displayed and flyers announce upcoming sporting events.

Meathead Movers sponsors various local high schools sports and youth teams as well.

Workout equipment shares space with moving boxes in the warehouse, so the athletes can work out during their down time. The facility is neat and clean, as are the company trucks.

Steed wants to set a positive example for the young men he employs. He is on the board of United Way in Ventura and believes in giving back to the community.

Meathead Movers teams up with women’s shelters in the area and provides free services to any victim of domestic violence who needs help moving out of a difficult situation.

The movers also created a calendar to benefit the Women’s Imaging Center at French Hospital in San Luis Obispo. athletes posed for the Because I Love You calendar to encourage women to get regular mammograms [www.MeatheadCalendar.com].

By logging onto the company’s Web site, you can look at a student’s profile and personally request one of the athletes to help you with your next move. If  you’re a supporter of wresting or football, you can hire a athlete from that sport or from your favorite local college.

Meathead Movers continues to grow and has its sights set on expansion to San Diego next.
