‘Let’s fill those trucks’: SLO moving company collecting donations for Maui fire victims
February 19, 2025
Meathead Movers, a San Luis Obispo moving company, is collecting donations to aid those impacted by the Maui wildfire, the company announced in a news release.
According to The Hill, 96 people had been pronounced dead as a result of the catastrophic wildfires on the Hawaiian island as of Sunday evening — the deadliest wildfire in the United States in more than 100 years. Maui County officials said the death toll is expected to rise as more search-and-rescue missions are underway.
According to Hawaiian Gov. Josh Green, more than 2,700 structures had been destroyed in Lahaina and “an estimated value of $5.6 billion has gone away,” the Hill reported.
Meathead Movers is partnering with Operation USA, an international disaster relief organization, which will be transporting the items to victims of the wildfires, the release said.
The company will be accepting bottled water, non-perishable food, baby formula and diapers. All items must be unopened with an expiration date of 12 months or more past Aug. 15.
“Our communities have made incredible impacts on major tragedies in the past, and I know that we can do it once again,” Meathead Movers CEO Aaron Steed said in the release. “We are in a unique position as a company to help facilitate the giving of truckloads of goods to those who need it most. We are ready to collect and transport the items safely and as quickly as possible. Let’s fill those trucks.”
The donation drive will take place from Tuesday through Sunday. Donations can be dropped off in the Meathead Movers lobby at 3600 South Higuera St. in San Luis Obispo from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Donations are also being accepted at Meathead Wine Storage at 4468 Broad St., No. 110.
Moving trucks will also be parked at various shopping centers to collect donations. Those locations will be announced on the moving company’s social media.
The company will also be accepting donations at its locations in Fresno, Bakersfield, Oxnard and Temecula.
“Operation USA’s capacity to deliver emergency funding and supplies depends entirely on the generosity of partners and members the public,” Operation USA spokesperson Mary Dolan said in the release. “As we assess the massive scale of damage in Hawaii following these wildfires, and ready both short- and long-term relief aid, we’re so grateful for the meaningful support of the Meathead Movers community.”
