Inquisitr: Professional Movers Step Up To Help Victims Of Domestic Violence By Offering To Move Them For Free

Being in an abusive relationship is a difficult and painful situation. Far too often, women stay with abusive boyfriends or husbands because they have been isolated and feel like they have nowhere to go or no one to turn to. If they do leave, most women need to do it quickly and while their partner is at work or just not home.

For a victim of domestic violence, packing can be a painful task. With each item they put into a box, they often feel as if they have failed. Their fear mounts, and in some cases, they change their mind and stay. Now a moving company is offering to take the burden of packing off the shoulders of victims so they can get out easier and faster.

The California moving company Meathead Movers was founded in 1997 by brothers Aaron and Evan Steed while they were students attending San Luis Obispo High School. Today, Meathead Movers handles over 10,000 moves a year, making it the largest independent moving company in the state. Meathead Movers has four dispatch centers in San Luis Obispo, Orange County, Ventura County, and its newest location in Fresno, reports LA Weekly.

Meathead Movers recently announced that it has partnered with Good Shepherd, a nonprofit domestic violence organization, to help people in abusive relationships.

“Meathead Movers will work directly with the nonprofit to identify the abusive situations and provide moving services at no cost,” a spokeswoman for Good Shepherd said. “Not only do these services help the victims of domestic abuse but they directly impact Meathead employees — consisting of Packing predominantly young men who believe that real men don’t hit women, real men help those in need.”

A representative for Meathead Movers says that the company will donate service that will be doled out by Good Shepherd on a monthly basis. If an individual feels that they qualify for help, they have to go through the nonprofit for assistance, reports ABC 30.

“We know how hard it is to pack up someone’s life and move it to a new location — but it’s unimaginable to think about a woman and her children trying to pack up all their belongings and flee before the abuser returns home,” said Aaron Steed, president and CEO of Meathead. “When we realized we had the resources to help provide a fresh start for these victims, we knew Good Shepherd was the perfect organization to connect us with those who need our services most.”
