We’re on vacation this week, but spotting great entrepreneurial efforts never rests.

My dad noticed a car parked outside of our beach rental house today with the name Meathead Movers plastered across the side of the small truck.  That’s a catchy name for a moving company, so we checked into who they were.

Turns out they are a local mover specializing in a three county area here on the beautiful central coast of California.  It’s hard to get creative when you’re talking about movers, but the Steed brothers have managed to do it.

They have a great story.  They do some great things for the community.  And, it looks like they have a niche job opportunity for local athletes who are looking to earn extra bucks and stay in shape.

The lesson here for entrepreneurs is that you don’t have to settle for mediocrity just because you are in an industry that isn’t that sexy (moving companies, for example).  What these guys have done is to carve out a creative niche in their market, and do some good at the same time.

Study up on what they’ve done with their moving company, and how they are differentiating themselves from their competition in their local market.

P.S.  Never know who’s going to see your company truck, or notice what your company shirt says.  You’re always marketing yourself and your company…even when you aren’t looking to do it.  They just happened to park near the right rental home today…
