The story has it that in 1966, the boys ventured into Mexico searching for a mummy; finding two, they smuggled them across the border and hid them in a garage where they remained undiscovered for 14 years. When the mummies were finally discovered, the Mexican authorities allowed the mummies to join the San Diego Museum of Man’s collection.
