"America's young people face record unemployment, and we need to do everything we can to make sure they've got the opportunity to earn the skills and a work ethic that come with a job. It's important for their future, and for America's. That's why I proposed a summer jobs program for youth in the American Jobs Act — a plan that Congress failed to pass. America's youth can't wait for Congress to act. This is an all-hands-on-deck moment. That's why today, we're launching Summer Jobs+, a joint initiative that challenges business leaders and communities to join my Administration in providing hundreds of thousands of summer jobs for America's youth"

— President Barack Obama

Meathead Movers and Summer Jobs+

My brother and I have been thinking a lot lately about the lack of job opportunities for young people. Being able to work during high school and college developed our with a work ethic and provided learning opportunities that continue to serve us today. We recognize that we achieved our dreams because we were given opportunities, and are proud to give our employees opportunities to grow and develop within the company. But we still felt like we could do more. So as a small, family-run business, we are thrilled to join the chorus, along with some of America’s largest corporations, to offer summer job opportunities to young people. We have taken steps to ensure our open positions can be accessible to even more young people looking for work. We pledge to support the Summer Jobs+ program by providing increased recruitment at community colleges, and paid employment, additional training and transportation assistance to at least 100 young men and women ages 18 to 24 at our locations in San Luis Obispo and Camarillo in this year.

  • MAKING IT EASIER TO GET HERE We’re launching a Transportation Assistance Program, offering pre-tax public transit benefits to all employees, and coordinating a ridesharing program, facilitated by Operations Managers at each location.
  • PROVIDING THE TOOLS TO GET AHEAD We will update our Appearance and Professionalism training, to ensure all employees have the polish and confidence to interact with discerning clients, a skill set that will continue to serve them as they pursue their dreams.
  •  PRACTICAL ADVICE We’re creating a bi-monthly informal mentoring lunch with CEO Aaron Steed at each location, where he will offer specific career guidance and advice to employees who sign up in advance.
  •  GIVING BACK Because we recognize that this generation wants to serve their community, our final commitment is to offer all of our young employees the chance to give back. We facilitate their involvement in existing Meathead Mover community initiatives and events, including volunteering their time to help victims of domestic violence and raising money for CASA and the United Way.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead.
