Chili PepperIn our second installment of Movers Mixology, we're excited to feature a cocktail that is not only delicious, but calorie conscious. When you need to be fit enough to run back to the moving truck when not carrying heavy furniture, it's important to stay light on your feet. WIth that being said, you're not about to see our muscle-bound movers drinking anything called "SkinnyGirl."  For you, our fantastic clients and fans, we're mindful of the fact that if you are discerning enough to choose Meathead Movers, you are probably also picky about what you eat and drink. We'd like to introduce you to the best of both worlds: a complex and thoughtful cocktail made with ingredients that won't weigh you down.

The origin of our chosen libation is one of Washington DC's hottest spots: PS7. Mixologist Gina Chersevani recently lost over 50 pounds and in the process learned how to create a sweet and tasty drink while steering clear of creamy liquors and sugary syrups. For the Chili Flip she makes her own calorie-free simple syrup using Splenda, infuses her vodka with Kashmiri chiles (over time consumption speeds the metabolism and also slows your sipping), and squeezes her own juices and brews her own floral teas as a way to avoid sugary concentrates. The result is a cocktail that isn't a diet killer, but sure doesn't taste diet. The heat of the chile infused vodka blended with fragrant fresh lemon juice and no-guilt simple syrup marries well with egg whites for texture (and protein), topped with an elegant spritz of bitters and a swirl of hibiscus tea. Ahhh . . . can't you just taste it?

Now realistically, you won't be infusing vodka nor spritzing bitters once the movers are gone and you are settling into your new home. But you can still take some inspiration from Gina. Toss that sugary margarita mix and sweetened spiced rum, stick to clear liquors, and turn to what you already know are healthy drink options to use as mixers. Here's our simple idea for a healthy cocktail post-move: Your favorite unflavored-vodka, fresh brewed and unsweetened green tea, and add your favorite fruit garnish. Maybe a handful of pomegranate seeds, a lemon twist or a slice of cantaloupe. Refreshing, relaxing, and guilt free.
